Petrified Wood Penal Pocket Rosary

The Irish Penal Rosary came into being during the time of religious oppression in Ireland. This era became known as the "Penal Times" and the Penal Rosary became popular as it could be easily hidden in the hand so the devout could continue to pray without fear of being detected. Also known as "An Paidrin Beag," it is prayed by placing the ring on the thumb, praying the first decade of the rosary, then moving the ring to the second finger to pray the second decade, and so on, until the complete rosary has been prayed.
